HEALTHY ATHLETES

Healthy Athletes is a program that is designed to improve access and health care for Special Olympic athletes at event-based and other health screening clinics, usually provided on-site in Olympic or Athlete Villages. Healthy Athletes clinics will make referrals or recommendations for follow-up to local health practitioners when appropriate, while at the same time training health care professionals, students and others about the needs and care of people with intellectual disabilities. It will advocate for improved health policies and programs by collecting, analyzing and disseminating data on the health status and needs of persons with intellectual disabilities.
Healthy Athletes will take place at the 2011 Special Olympics Ontario Winter Games on Saturday January 22, 2011 at the Lakehead University Sanders Hangar. |
